A special tradition during the mysterious "Rauhnächte" around the turn of the year is the practice of smoking in the mountainous regions. During the traditional walks through Zauchensee's deep snow-covered landscape, the custom of driving away evil spirits with fragrant herbs and resins, and asking for luck and blessings for the coming year, is maintained. The walkers, who also feel the effects of the smoking on health and well-being, are accompanied by singing and brass music.
